athletic liability
while athletics often bring positive attention to a school or district, they can also be a source of major safety concerns. This training session is designed to address those concerns and is geared towards athletic directors, principals and coaches. Berard covers the laws surrounding student and staff safety both on and off school grounds. In this session, you learn the answers to the following:
- What are the risks involved with student athletics? Who’s liable for what?
- What is the responsibility of district employees and what is involved in the “duty to protect”?
- What are the health issues that are prevalent in athletics and what legal guidelines and precautions should be followed?
- How do you recognize hazing, sexual harassment, peer to peer harassment or unsafe coaching?
- What is “deliberate indifference”?
- How do you use daily duty-of-care checklists and report forms?
- What role do parents play in preventing athletic liability?
