william d. berard, iii, attorney at law, is a dynamic trainer leading legally-based training programs in a wide range of topics. Issues covered include sexual harassment and abuse awareness, complaint management and investigation programs, bullying and harassment curriculum, and programs for minimizing the risk of harm and liability in athletics and extracurricular activities. His programs are designed for all members of school districts- from students to administrators and all of the staff in between.
He graduated summa cum laude in 1982 from Niagara University and from the University of Buffalo Law School in 1985. He has been a practicing attorney in Niagara Falls, NY for over 20 years and an Adjunct Professor for Niagara University since 2006. In addition to his private law practice, he served as Assistant School District Attorney for the City of Niagara Falls Public Schools from 1993-98. Other positions held include Legislative Aide for The New York State Assembly (1981-83), Attorney for the Elderly for the Niagara County Office for the Aging (87-89), Assistant Corporation Counsel for the City of Niagara Falls (1996-97) and Adjunct Professor for Canisius College (1997-2005).
He has a background in various areas of law including public education and human resource laws; estate planning, trust work, Medicaid, commercial, and real property law; and tort and domestic relations. He is also involved in many aspects of sports law. These areas of expertise contribute to his ability to lead insightful, legally-based education training programs.
Mr. Berard is also very active in the Niagara Falls community. Offices held include Niagara Falls Board of Education president (1990) and vice president (1988, 1989, 1993); Niagara Bar Association president (1990), vice president (1989), treasurer (1988), and secretary (1987); United Way of Niagara Division X Chairperson (1991-present); and the Niagara Falls Boys and Girls Club board of directors (1988-present) and board president (1989-92).
